Solid Creative is a graphic design studio in Melbourne. From graphic design for tactile print related material, to engaging time-based motion graphic design and animation, the variety keeps Paul ticking. Working directly with clients and teams who are passionate about what they do and clear about what they want to achieve ALWAYS results in being able to offer creative input on how best to communicate. It's not just about making a nice poster, or a brouchure. It's about creative business, strategy and ideas. Valuing innovation in business is what allows companies, products and people to succeed, I want to work with those people.

The studio is currently in its early stages, taking the set up slowly, being able to give projects and client relationships the design and creative attention they deserve.

When it comes to design, I do lots of different things ... at any given time I'm more than likely working on a number of creative design projects for television (broadcast motion graphics design & animation), creative GRAPHIC DESIGN (graphic design), identity creation (logo design), creative user experience design and multimedia design, brand design and a lot of other stuff to keep things interesting. I love learning new things.

22 June, 2008 - Melbourne International Animation Festival
I was lucky enough to snap up two mini passes to the Melbourne International Animation Festival(MIAF) which was held at the Australian Centre for the Moving Image(ACMI) in Melbourne from the 16th-22nd June. Without much time to get along to screenings throughout the week, I decided the Sunday night was the way to go. The Sunday 'wrap-up' night comprised the "Best of the festival" selections which means I got to see the better of the no doubt excellent selection. It was great to see a packed cinema ... the festival could only 3 years ago fill half to 3 quarters of one the acmi cinemas, they're now screening films in 2 cinemas.
Madame Tutli Putli was simply stunning, the fluidity of the animation and mmotion, the excellent techinical execution (the use of 'real' eyes), the lighting and detail of the characters and set design, and the quirks of the story line were all brilliant. I have to admit I was a little disappointed with the resolve of the 20 minute film, but the journey there was entertaining. All up ... another year of great inspiration, admiration and animation BAM! Make a chance to get along to the festival in future years.
Here's hoping the festival continues to flourish.

15 June, 2008 - Shine a Light - The Rolling Stones
Went a long to see "Shine a Light" at IMAX - a career-spanning documentary on the Rolling Stones, directed by Martin Scorsese, with concert footage from their "A Bigger Bang" tour. What an experience! I feel as though I have seen the Stones live - something I may never actually get the chance to do ... but would jump at the chance if it came along. They are truely legends. The production was also simply amazing ... and the presentation on the massive IMAX screen (next door to Melbourne's Museum), the insane quality surround audio all added up to a fantastic 2 hours. As my first adventure into the world of IMAX my first impressions were "holy crap! there's no way I'll be able to take 2 hours of this, I feel ill." But that didn't last for too long and I was more than happy to be entertained.
